Sonia Carías

I’m Sonia Carías. I’m 28 years old, and today I teach at the Fuente de Esperanza School. When I was seven, I went to church with my sister and longed to learn to read, even though we had no money for schooling. Then a pastor told us: “Pray, and God will open doors,” and everything changed a year later.

I joined a project that gave children like me access to school. There I learned with joy, grew in Christian values, and discovered my passion for teaching.

Thanks to that opportunity, I received scholarships for high school in Computer Science and later for university. Now, five years later, I’ve returned to that very same school—Fuente de Esperanza—not as a student, but as a teacher, giving what was once given to me.

Fernando

Fernando was seven when he first walked into Fuente de Esperanza School. His mother was searching for a way for him to keep going in school, and the school, still small in those days, became the place where he grew as a student, came to know his faith, and built the values that guide him today. His mother later joined the school as a teacher.

Fernando was part of the school’s very first sixth-grade graduating class. Today he is studying Clinical Psychology at university, and he has come back to Fuente de Esperanza for his internship, mentoring the young people who now sit where he once did.
