Who We Are
Source of Hope Ministries is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings education, daily meals, health care, and the love of Christ to children and families in rural Guatemala. Together with our team in Guatemala, we serve more than 300 children each year through our schools in Zapote and El Membrillal.
Our Story
Our work began in the hilly farmland of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. In 2010, El Membrillal School opened its doors, offering distance learning and daily meals to a small group of children from families with very few resources. In 2012, Source of Hope Ministries was incorporated in Ohio and recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity to support and grow that work from the United States.
Today, our two schools, El Membrillal and El Zapote, serve about 300 students from kindergarten through 9th grade. Every student receives a 90% scholarship, nutritious meals planned with a nutritionist, and school supplies, and every school day begins with God’s Word and prayer.
Some of our first students have now come full circle. Sonía, who once prayed for the chance to learn to read, now teaches at the school. Fernando, a member of our first sixth-grade graduating class, returned to complete his internship in clinical psychology and now mentors young people in the community.
Our dream is to celebrate our first high school graduation in a country where only about one in four young people finishes secondary school.
Mission & Vision
Our mission is to reach people with the gospel, helping them develop a deep relationship with Jesus Christ and be transformed.
Our vision is to share the love of Christ with our community.

Our Partner in Guatemala
In Guatemala, our schools and programs are run by Fuente de Esperanza (“Source of Hope”), a local team of directors, teachers, and staff, many of whom come from the very communities they serve. Source of Hope Ministries in the United States raises support, provides oversight, and partners with churches and schools that send mission teams to serve alongside them.
We are also grateful for long-standing partners, including Iglesia Galilea in San Lucas Sacatepéquez, FairHaven Church in Ohio, McKinney Christian Academy in Texas, and Holistic Hope Ministry, which provides health talks for students and nutrition workshops for mothers.
Our Commitments
We are committed to the safety, dignity, and privacy of every child we serve. Our students take part in a child abuse prevention program that teaches them their bodies are valuable and deserve protection, and both schools take part in Guatemala’s national earthquake drills.
